Surgical Treatment of an Acetabular Fracture Using a Novel Intrapelvic Acetabular System.

A 66-year-old male patient with a left acetabular fracture (anterior column + posterior hemitransverse according to the Letournel and Judet classification) underwent surgical treatment via an anterior intrapelvic (AIP) approach combined with an additional small iliac window approach using a new anatomically pre-shaped three-dimensional plate. Postoperatively the patient was mobilized with partial weight-bearing and hip flexion limitations for 6 weeks. Direct postoperative follow-up at 6 months showed anatomic acetabular articular reduction and no change in position of the plate and screws with maintenance of reduction, complete fracture consolidation and return to pre-injury function. This case report shows detailed steps of reduction and fixation of the fracture highlighting advantages and key features of the novel acetabular plating system.
